If we were having coffee this morning, the first thing I’d tell you was I’m sorry for not showing up last week. Life’s busy, man. And the second thing I’d tell you was that I got my balcony garden planted last weekend! Let me just say: garden centers are my happy place. I spent two hours in Home Depot picking out all my flowers.
Here’s a few pictures of what I planted. A ton of flowers, as well as herbs (basil, oregano, thyme, chives, cilantro, parsley), a few veggies (yellow pepper and tomatoes) and something cool thrown in– aloe vera!
There goes Link sticking his head into pots again… he keeps trying to bite the hibiscus flowers off the bush. Grr.
I haven’t had much luck in the past with growing basil on the balcony but I’m hoping it likes this spot. Nothing better than fresh basil. I actually have basil envy of my mom’s garden– next time I’m there I’ll take a picture and you’ll see where my jealousy comes from. Oh and by the way, if you’re reading Mom, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
If we were having coffee this morning, I’d tell you about a new restaurant we’ve tried here in Fort Worth! It’s called Mash’d, and it’s amazing. I met Nick for lunch last week. He works in downtown Fort Worth and this place was only a couple blocks from his office. For starters, we got the chips + queso. The chips were SO good! Thick and seasoned well. The queso was rich and had roasted pepper, jalapeno and red onion swirled on top. Yum.
I ordered a shrimp boil– which was actually served in a white paper bag that I had to rip open and dump everything out. WOW the shrimp were juicy and flavorful, and I got a mild dip (the pink stuff). The red potatoes and corn were cooked perfectly. Definitely will be making a trip back here.
If we were having coffee this morning, I’d tell you about a few new recipes I’ve tried. I made this chicken lettuce wrap recipe last night and I loved it, however Nick did not. I guess he isn’t a big fan of Asian food (whattt I can’t believe I’m marrying him)…
P.S. I’m super happy about the wonderful natural light that is now in our dining room… I can take pictures of my meals for insta and not have them all dark and yellow like before. Nothing makes me happier than bright, natural light :)
Last week I made Skinny Taste’s coconut chicken tenders and we loved them!! I can 100% say that they were the best chicken tenders I’ve ever made. And they were baked! Tip– to reheat, put them in a toaster oven on broil for 5-10 minutes until they’re crispy again.
If we were having coffee this morning, I’d tell you that Link has found a new favorite perch! He hops up onto Nick’s office chair and then onto the window sill. He likes watching what’s happenin’ down on the street and barking at anything that walks by.
Until next week, friends! If we were having coffee this morning, what would you tell me?
I’m also attempting to grow basil on my balcony. We’ll see how that goes! Have a great weekend :)
Haha let’s hope our basil grows this summer!
Link is a doll! xo
Haha thanks!!
I want to plant some herbs so bad! I don’t have much of a green thumb though so I think they’d all either burn to death or get eaten by bugs, since those are the only outcomes I’ve ever had. If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I am SO SAD for maternity leave to almost be over :( I don’t want it to end.
Oh gosh yes I can’t imagine how hard it would be to go back to work!
if we were having coffee, i’d tell you we need to meet for a real cup of coffee soooon. i cant wait to catch up.
yeah definitely! :)
If your basil doesn’t grow consider an earth box next year! Total game changer in the container garden world!
I’ve never heard of that before! Will have to check it out!
