If you loved Tuna Helper as a child, bring back those happy memories with a homemade version using simple ingredients! Peas and garlic sauteed in butter along with heavy cream and Parmesan. So simple!

Hi friends! Popping in real quick to share an awesome recipe with you. If you haven’t heard the news on Facebook or Instagram, I’m writing a book! I’ve been knee-deep in recipe testing and writing for the past couple of months. I’ve been testing 3-5 recipes a week for the book, along with my usual recipes for clients like Mealime. It’s been busy!!

I wanted to share this SUPER easy weeknight dinner recipe with you. Did you like Tuna Helper as a kid? Or am I the only weird one? We used to scarf it down and my mom would have to make triple batches. My favorite was the white sauce with peas. Today’s recipe is basically that, just homemade with simple ingredients. All you need is butter, cream, and Parmesan for the sauce!

Kids will love this dish as well. It’s great if you’re trying to get them to like tuna because the saltiness of the Parmesan really jazzes it up!

Scale

Ingredients

  • 16 oz rotini pasta
  • 3 tbsp butter, unsalted
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 ½ cups frozen peas
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 1 ½ cups frozen peas
  • 1 ½ cups heavy cream
  • 3 oz Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 3 (6 oz) cans chunk light tuna in water

  1. Cook the pasta according to package instructions.
  2. Meanwhile, heat another large pot over medium heat. Once the pot is hot, add butter and swirl to coat the bottom. Add garlic to the pot and stir until fragrant, 15-30 seconds.
  3. Add peas and salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, until peas are heated through, 4-5 minutes.
  4. Add cream to the pot with the peas and bring to a simmer. Once pasta is done, drain and add to the pot along with the Parmesan.
  5. Drain tuna, add to the pot, and gently stir to combine.

This was DELICIOUS. I took it to work for a few coworkers and not a bite was left. Thanks Emily for an updated childhood favorite!
