Let’s talk about balance today, shall we?
Totally appropriate as I just started attending a local yoga studio last week. I had taken a four-month break from yoga because I got really burnt out from my old studio. Don’t get me wrong, I loved my old studio. The instructors were great and I loved the heat, but doing the same moves over and over again, with the exact same music, wasn’t helping my zen.
After taking a couple months off, I started to really miss yoga. I found a new local studio that has progressive classes (meaning new poses and more challenging poses at each class) and different music. I bought a one-week trial, and so far I’ve attended FIVE 6am classes since last week! Part of me hardly believes that it’s me getting up at 5:30am and dragging my butt to the studio.
But it’s all worth it at the end of class when I’m laying in savasana in a pool of sweat and the yoga instructor comes around and rubs everyone’s neck with peppermint lotion. All worth it. I’m starting to feel in balance again.
Sometimes it’s important to do a self check to see if our life is in balance.
Today’s world constantly tries to throw us out of balance and sometimes no matter what we do our lives still feel like they’re going the wrong direction (I definitely feel this way sometimes). Balanced living seems so difficult, but really there is nothing simpler than a balanced life.
It will take some work at first but once you get into the flow of things, you can discover simple ways to steer your life in the right direction. You can be inspired and energized by life every day. But balanced living doesn’t mean that your life will be full of only positive people and events.
Balanced living is when you can always offset any negative thoughts or events with positive ones. It’s when you’re happy working and playing equally. To live a balanced life, there are some essential habits you can develop that I’ve read about in my yoga and meditation books.
This lets you see every current moment and appreciate them. Living in the present and not obsessing over the future or past is very important. Appreciate who you are right now and find joy in your current state.
Love your body.
Take care of your body! Be grateful for the body you have and make healthy choices by exercising, eating a balanced and healthy diet, and resting often. Your body is the tool that lets you experience life.
Perseverance and patience helps us be better friends, spouses, parents, and turns our dreams into reality. Don’t spend life mad or infuriated at minor things such as traffic or grocery lines. Perfection does not transform you, patience does. It can lead to mindfulness and bring you in balance.
Reduce the number of things that can disrupt your happy living. Simplify your work schedule, your relationships, your diet, and social media exposure. I know that I need to work on the last one. Simplicity is probably the most important part of life balance.
We can all work towards a more balanced life! It can be easy and rewarding because your life becomes joyful, happy and feels more serene. Put some time and effort into turning your life in a balanced direction and you can feel the peace too.
This is a wonderful tool that can turn our dreams into reality, play into work, and work into play. Approach your challenges with creativity.
