Every new year comes with renewed optimism. I’m not a big fan of making New Year’s resolutions, because 99% of the time they’re tossed aside. Creating new habits and sticking with them, that I am a fan of!
I read Leo Babauta’s recent post on Zen Habits about creating an amazing 2015 by working on new habits each month, and I was very inspired to do something similar. So, each month of 2015, I will be focusing on a different habit in my mindfulness posts!
Each month I’ll be posting tips & tricks, links to helpful articles, fun printables, and some other surprises I have planned. We’ll work together to be more grateful and positive, de-clutter, create, let go, and so much more. Gradual change is so much easier to handle than making drastic goals that are unattainable. If we commit together, we can change our habits completely over time!
Create habits, not resolutions.
I read that only 8% of people actually achieve their New Year’s resolutions. I know for a fact that my past resolutions usually fade away by mid-February. Not this year! That’s why we’re going to be focusing on one new habit at a time, one per month, instead of trying to achieve numerous goals all at once. We’ll give it our full attention for a whole month, then we’ll do another habit. At the end of the year we’ll have 12 new habits!
Focus on weekly changes.
When you think about a whole year’s worth of new habits, it is a little overwhelming. When we focus on one week at a time, it’s doable. Each week we can adapt what we’re doing so that our method gets better every week. I’ll be posting topic-related posts and links to awesome articles that will help us achieve that month’s habit.
When we have friends who are holding you accountable, you’re much more likely to get things done. That’s why I’m doing this post series– not only for my readers, but for myself. It’s a way of keeping myself accountable for changes I’d like to make in 2015. For those who’d like to join me on this journey, let’s root each other on!
